The chinchilla digestive system REQUIRES that the bulk of their daily consumption consists of roughage or fiber. Protein is best when used only occasionally- in excess, and it will simply add fat. Hay for daily use should have the highest fiber and the lowest protein content.

Pellets, treats, nuts, seeds, and dried fruits (raisins) require refrigeration to preserve
their optimum freshness and nutritional value, also to prevent potential decay and mold.
When storing hay, including hay blocks, push the air out of the container and seal it, then
keep it in a cool place with absolutely no exposure to dampness or moisture.
